World Day against Trafficking in Persons is an official United Nations observance held on July 30.It was established in 2013 by the UN General Assembly.The observance focuses on raising awareness of human trafficking and the importance of stopping it.
World Day against Trafficking in Persons aims to raise awareness of the situation of men, women and children who have fallen victims to human trafficking and to promote and protect their rights.International organizations, civil society organizations organizes appropriate events that highlight the main issues of trafficking in persons.
Marking the day a rally was organized in Canning jointly coordinated and collaborated by the Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centrein association with Canning Police station and Canning 1 Panchayat Samitee working in the anti trafficking sector.Around 400 people participated in the event that included Human rights activists, 200 Civic police volunteers, Childline, Canning police station,civil society members,government officials,students, adolescent girls group members, community vigilance committee members, and others marched through the streets of Canning with a slogan (Together Let’s End of Human Trafficking).
Currently, the Anti Human Trafficking project of KMWSC has three main thematic areas for working;Child protection,Education and vocational Training pogrammes.KMWSC is working against child labour,violence against women and children, child abuse, early child marriage and school dropout issues. It has also expanded its field over improving the quality of education in schools and eliminates the worst form of child sexual abuse and violence against children.
