The relentless and united effort of the Brickfield team of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre has turned the lives of so many buds into blooming flower.
Brick Field School team members visited Nawada District in the neighbouring state of Bihar from 12th March 2016 to 19th March 2016. The aim of this visit was to collect information about the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Homes and Schools for girls.
About 700 students of Brick Field School belong to Nawada District of Bihar Kasturba Gandhi Schools gives girls who are school drop outs and are between 11-14 years an opportunity to continue their education. Last year one girl “Reshma kumarai , a Brick Field School student was successfully admitted in the Kasturba Gandhi School of Nawada Block.
Brick Field School team members visited 7 blocks offices in Nawada District – Nawada, Hisua, Narhat, Nardigaunz, Akberpur, Rajwali and Sirdala. They have conducted several meetings with the Block Resource Center Coordinators and Superintendents of K.G. Schools and collected the total number of available seats.
They met the District Education Officer who gave them the criteria of admission in Kasturba Gandhi Schools since it’s time for the migrant workers of the brickfields to go back to their native villages. The children; our direct beneficiaries, who had accompanied their parents will be going back to their villages as well.
Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre has gone beyond teaching them in the brickfield schools only. The vision is to mainstream these buds of hope into schools.Two of our dedicated members had been to Nawada to conduct a survey on the vacancies in the Kasturba Gandhi Homes. They had been to 5 blocks in Nawada to ascertain the number of vacancies in these homes.
We are expecting this visit to bear some fruit in the time to come.
