Celebrating Freedom, Inspiring Responsibility: KMWSC’s 80th Independence Day Celebrations

Freedom is best honoured when celebrated together. Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre marked India's 80th Independence Day with reverence and patriotic spirit across its office and project locations, bringing together children, staff, families, and community stakeholders in a shared celebration of unity and responsibility.

At the KMWSC office, the National Flag was hoisted by Mariana Bage, followed by spirited performances from Skill Development students and an inspiring pledge, before Mariana Bage closed with an address on rights and responsibility toward the nation's progress.

At the Model Centre in Basirhat, under the PTP, BFS, and OSF projects, Mr. Prohllad Mullick hoisted the flag before children presented a dance performance, followed by food distribution and a tree plantation drive at needy households in Dhaltitha village. Nearby, the Hakimpur BSF Camp saw flag hoisting and sports activities with 143 Bn BSF, while the AHT and LES Project's Awareness Centre in Basirhat held its own flag hoisting and awareness session.

At the Tribal Learning Centre, Gangasagar, children marched and performed cultural programmes after paying tribute to freedom fighters. Celebrations also took place at Godava, Sundarban under the Bari Shakti Project, and at Siddqua Aminia Azizia Rahamania Madrasa under Surokhit Shaishav, where the flag was hoisted by Mr. Abdul Gaffar and Hafez Abul Hossain Dafader, followed by an awareness session on child rights and cyber safety.

Further celebrations unfolded at Boinchtala, Dhapa under AGEP, with speeches, poetry, and performances; at Dulki village under the Lotus Child Project; and across Sonagachi, where Red Light Area projects gathered in the Director's presence to celebrate dignity and hope. The Naya Disha team joined celebrations at Sahapur FP School and Hingalganj Gram Panchayat, marked by patriotic performances and reflections on unity and community responsibility.
