Building Inclusive Communities: Stakeholder Awareness Campaign for Specially Abled Children

  • 28 Jul 2026
  • Basirhat, North 24 Parganas

Every child, regardless of ability, deserves a community that recognises their rights and champions their inclusion. With this vision, the Prerona Project organised an Awareness Campaign for Stakeholders on 28th July 2026 at Basirhat, North 24 Parganas, to promote the rights, inclusion, and well-being of specially-abled children.

The programme brought together a wide range of key community stakeholders, including the GP Secretary, GP members, school teachers, health workers, ASHA workers, civic volunteers, parents of children with special needs (CWSN), and local community members. This diverse gathering reflected the shared responsibility that different sections of the community carry in shaping a more inclusive environment for specially-abled children.

Discussions during the session centred on the importance of early identification of disabilities, ensuring timely intervention and support for children who need it most. Participants also explored the role of inclusive education in enabling specially-abled children to learn alongside their peers, and were introduced to government schemes designed to support their access to healthcare, education, and welfare services.

The programme further emphasised the importance of child protection and the need for collaborative support systems involving families, schools, health workers, and local governance structures. Participants engaged actively in the discussions, sharing their perspectives and experiences, and reaffirmed their collective commitment to fostering a peaceful, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Through initiatives such as this, the Prerona Project continues to strengthen community-level engagement and awareness, ensuring that specially-abled children are not left behind, but are recognised, supported, and included as valued members of their community.

"Every child included, every voice valued."
