Nurturing Hope, Restoring Dignity: Supporting Children with Severe Disabilities

Every child deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, receive proper care, and experience the hope of a better future. Guided by this belief, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC), through the Silverlining Project and with the generous support of Student Outreach, extended essential assistance to children with severe disabilities from economically disadvantaged families in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, on 1st July 2026.

As part of the initiative, nutritious food kits were distributed to three children with severe disabilities to support their nutritional needs and overall well-being. Recognising that adequate nutrition is vital for their growth and health, the support sought to ease the burden on families facing financial hardship while ensuring that the children receive the nourishment they require.

In addition, another severely disabled child received a wheelchair, significantly improving mobility, comfort, and independence. The provision of this mobility aid will enable the child to participate more actively in daily life while reducing the physical challenges faced by both the child and the caregiver.

Beyond the distribution of essential resources, the initiative reaffirmed the importance of standing alongside vulnerable families with compassion and practical support. For parents and caregivers, these interventions brought reassurance that they are not alone in their journey of caring for children with special needs.

KMWSC expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Student Outreach for their generous partnership and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children. Through such collaborative efforts, we continue to build a more inclusive society where every child, regardless of ability or circumstance, is valued, supported, and empowered to live with dignity, hope, and renewed possibilities.

“Every act of care brings hope, dignity, and a brighter tomorrow.”
