Empowerment begins when individuals are provided with opportunities to discover their potential and develop skills that can lead to sustainable livelihoods. With this vision, a capacity-building training on clay jewellery making was organised on 22nd and 24th June 2026 in Sonagachi, creating a platform for women to enhance their creativity, acquire practical skills, and explore new avenues for income generation.
The training introduced participants to the art of crafting decorative jewellery from clay, guiding them through the various stages of designing, moulding, shaping, and finishing handcrafted pieces. What began as simple clay gradually transformed into attractive and unique jewellery items, demonstrating how creativity and skill can add value to readily available materials.
Beyond learning a craft, the programme aimed to strengthen the confidence and self-reliance of the participants. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, the women gained valuable knowledge that can be applied to small-scale entrepreneurial activities and livelihood initiatives. The training highlighted the potential of handmade products as a source of supplementary income and encouraged participants to consider creative enterprise as a pathway towards greater economic independence.
The enthusiasm and dedication displayed throughout the sessions reflected the participants’ eagerness to learn, improve their abilities, and create better opportunities for themselves and their families. The interactive nature of the training also fostered a spirit of collaboration, allowing women to share ideas, encourage one another, and celebrate their progress together.
By investing in skill development and livelihood promotion, such initiatives contribute to building confidence, enhancing economic resilience, and expanding opportunities for women. The clay jewellery training served as a meaningful step towards empowering participants to transform their talents into sustainable opportunities and shape brighter futures through creativity and determination.
“When hands learn a skill, lives gain new possibilities.”
