Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) observed World Environment Day 2026 across multiple project locations, engaging children, adolescents, mothers, educators, and community members in a collective effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Guided by this year’s global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” the celebrations highlighted the shared responsibility of protecting the environment for present and future generations.

Under the Naya Disha Project, a School Awareness Programme was organised at Hingalganj Tetultola FP School. The event brought together 49 students, teachers, and guardians to reflect on the importance of environmental stewardship. A sapling plantation drive symbolised the nurturing of new life and reinforced the message that small actions can contribute significantly to ecological well-being. The programme also featured a drawing competition, prize distribution, and an interactive feedback session.

The Surokhit Shaishav – Kolkata Child Rights Project marked the day through drawing competitions at Parnaihati Village and Sarkar Para, Paikardanga. Child Club members and community children enthusiastically expressed their concerns and hopes for the environment through creative artwork. Their drawings conveyed powerful messages on reducing pollution, conserving forests, protecting water resources, and creating cleaner, greener communities.

In Basirhat, the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Project collaborated with the Border Security Force (BSF) to organise an awareness rally and tree plantation drive. Members of Child Vigilance Committees (CVCs), youth groups, and adolescent groups actively participated, spreading awareness on environmental conservation within the community.

Meanwhile, the Silver Lining Project celebrated the occasion at Solegohalia Village, Baruipur, where mothers and adolescent members joined hands in a tree-planting initiative, reaffirming their commitment to environmental protection.

Through these diverse activities, KMWSC encouraged communities to embrace sustainable practices and become active custodians of nature. The observance served as a reminder that collective action, however small, can help build a healthier, greener, and more resilient future for all.
