: From Hearts to Hands: Strengthening Barefoot Educators for Transformative Learning

  • 23 Feb 2026 - 24 Feb 2026
  • KMWSC Office, Kolkata

A two-day Barefoot Teachers’ Training was conducted at KMWSC on 23rd and 24th February 2026, bringing together grassroots educators committed to nurturing learning spaces within marginalised communities. The training aimed to strengthen both conceptual understanding and practical teaching skills, equipping participants to facilitate joyful, child-centred, and rights-based education.

The session began with an engaging ice-breaker, followed by an introduction to the origin, vision, and objectives of the project. This helped participants reconnect with the deeper purpose of their role – l not merely as instructors, but as facilitators of change within their communities.

Interactive discussions formed the core of the training, covering classroom management techniques, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the pillars of child rights, and the crucial distinction between equity and equality. These sessions encouraged teachers to reflect critically on their daily practices and to recognise their responsibility in creating inclusive and protective learning environments.

Participants actively engaged in storytelling methods and collaborated in preparing creative Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs), reinforcing the importance of experiential and activity-based learning. The practical sessions enabled teachers to translate theory into classroom-friendly strategies that are adaptable to resource-constrained settings.

The training concluded with action rhymes, a reflective presentation on the characteristics of children and teachers, and an open feedback session. The atmosphere throughout the two days was marked by enthusiasm, openness, and a shared commitment to improving the quality of education at the grassroots level.

By investing in the capacity of barefoot teachers, KMWSC continues to strengthen community-led education models rooted in dignity, participation, and child rights.

“Empowered teachers, empowered children – building change from the grassroots.”
