We continue to rejoice in the spirit of unity and fulfilment as the long-cherished dream of Mary Ward has finally become reality – the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) and the Congregation of Jesus (CJ) have become one.
The Eucharistic Celebration at Loyola, Spain, marked this historic moment when both branches of the Mary Ward family, after years of discernment, dialogue, and prayer, officially united under one name – Congregatio Jesu. The decree of union, affirmed by the Vatican, signifies the completion of a journey that began centuries ago with the bold vision of Mary Ward: “Women in time to come will do much.”
This union celebrates not only the merging of two congregations but also a profound renewal of shared mission — to bring the light of Christ to the margins, through education, justice, and compassion. From Europe to Asia, from Latin America to Africa, the spirit of Mary Ward lives on through thousands of sisters, collaborators, and institutions inspired by her legacy.
At the Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, we join the global family in thanksgiving and joy, standing united in the same mission that began with Mary Ward’s courage and continues through every act of service and hope.
