Powerful Street Plays Amplify the Message: “Say No to Plastic!”

Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre's I.D.E.N.T.I.T.Y. Project Takes Creative Action in Motijheel and Hastings.

The Performance That Sparked Change:

On September 12, 2025, the streets of Motijheel and Hastings transformed into stages for a cause! Under the visionary I.D.E.N.T.I.T.Y. project, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre organised dynamic street plays (nukkad natak) to rally the community against plastic pollution.

Our passionate team of performers used drama and powerful dialogue to illustrate the devastating impact of single-use plastic on our environment and health, turning complex issues into relatable and compelling stories.

Why This Matters:

Plastic pollution isn't just an environmental issue; it's a community health crisis. Through the universal language of theatre, we:

• Raised Awareness about the long-term dangers of plastic waste.
• Inspired Behavioural Change, encouraging the use of sustainable alternatives like cloth bags and metal containers.
• Engaged directly with community members of all ages, from children to elders, right in their own neighbourhoods.
