Raising Awareness on Human Rights and Child Protection in Bankra

On 12th August 2025, the Naya Disha Project team of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre conducted an impactful awareness programme at Dalalabad ICDS Centre, Bankra. The session was attended by 41 community members, alongside the Anganwadi Worker (AWW), who actively participated in the discussions.

The programme focused on human rights and child rights, drawing attention to pressing violations that continue to affect vulnerable families. Issues such as child labour, child marriage, human trafficking, domestic violence, and the misuse of social media were highlighted to ensure participants understood the risks and the long-term impact on individuals and communities.

Particular emphasis was placed on child marriage, a critical concern in the area. Through interactive dialogue, the team facilitated conversations on how early marriages jeopardise children’s education, health, and overall well-being. Participants explored community-based solutions and reporting mechanisms to collectively prevent such harmful practices.

The session also aimed to build awareness on the importance of safe digital practices, equipping participants with knowledge to safeguard children and youth from online exploitation and misinformation. By encouraging open discussion, the programme fostered a sense of collective responsibility within the community.

This initiative reflects KMWSC’s continuous efforts to strengthen grassroots awareness, empower families with knowledge, and promote a culture of rights and protection. The active engagement of participants demonstrated both the need and willingness to work together for a safer future.
