On 28th July 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) conducted a focused auto campaign and leaflet distribution drive across New Alipore under its Kolkata Slums Project, aimed at promoting greater awareness on cleanliness and hygiene among community members.

The campaign was designed to reach people in their own neighbourhoods through a mobile audio message system mounted on an auto-rickshaw, covering multiple localities in the New Alipore area. The campaign vehicle broadcasted easy-to-understand messages in the local language, highlighting everyday practices essential for maintaining hygiene, such as safe disposal of waste, handwashing, clean drinking water practices, and proper sanitation habits.

In tandem with the mobile audio outreach, leaflets were distributed by the KMWSC team and local volunteers to community members, shopkeepers, street vendors, and passers-by. The printed materials offered clear, illustrated tips on basic hygiene practices and preventive health measures to reduce illness, particularly among children and vulnerable populations living in slum areas.

The campaign served as a gentle yet impactful reminder of how small behavioural changes can lead to significant improvements in public health, especially in densely populated urban spaces. It also reinforced KMWSC’s ongoing commitment to improving community well-being not just through education and skill development, but also through awareness and preventive action.

The event saw active participation from residents and received positive responses from the community, encouraging future outreach initiatives in other localities.
