At Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, we believe that learning flourishes in an environment that nurtures not only skills but also spirit. As part of the Skill Development Project, extra-curricular warm-up sessions have been introduced as daily motivational activities for trainees before the commencement of their regular classes.
These sessions are carefully designed to promote creative expression, team spirit, and self-confidence, offering a gentle yet energising start to the day. Activities range from art-based engagement, short team games, singing, storytelling, mindfulness exercises, and motivational discussions — all intended to create a safe, joyful, and dynamic space where trainees feel emotionally connected and mentally prepared.
This initiative acknowledges the fact that many of our trainees come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds. By incorporating these non-academic moments of fun and expression, the Skill Development team is fostering a holistic and empowering learning environment that values emotional wellbeing just as much as technical skill-building.
Trainers have noted improved participation, positive attitude shifts, and stronger peer connections as outcomes of these warm-up sessions. Trainees themselves have expressed enthusiasm, often referring to these sessions as “the best part of the day.”
By weaving warmth, creativity, and motivation into the daily rhythm of skill development, we are not only training hands but also uplifting hearts and minds — nurturing a confident, skilled, and inspired generation of young individuals.
