On 4th April 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) organised a dynamic and participatory workshop for adolescent groups and Child Parliament (CP) members under the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Project in Basirhat. The workshop saw the enthusiastic participation of 30 active adolescent members, all of whom came together with a shared purpose — to strengthen their understanding of child rights, leadership, and protection mechanisms.
The session aimed at reinforcing the vital role adolescents’ play in creating safer communities, especially in vulnerable regions where the threat of child trafficking, early marriage, and exploitation remains prevalent. Through interactive discussions, role-plays, and group activities, the children explored concepts such as child protection, leadership skills, personal boundaries, peer support, and community action.
Facilitators also guided the CP members in revisiting their responsibilities and empowered them to take greater initiative in identifying risks within their communities and addressing issues in a proactive and informed manner. The workshop encouraged each participant to raise their voice not just for themselves, but also for those who are often unheard — ensuring that the spirit of youth-led advocacy is kept alive.
Moreover, the workshop served as a platform for these young leaders to share their experiences, challenges, and success stories, strengthening their sense of solidarity and purpose.
Such events are crucial in the AHT project’s broader mission to build grassroots resistance against trafficking and exploitation through community vigilance and youth engagement. By nurturing the leadership potential of adolescents, KMWSC reaffirms its commitment to protecting children and empowering them to be agents of change.
“When children lead, communities listen—and change begins.”
