On 22nd March 2025, a pivotal stakeholders' meeting was organised at Matia under the Sohochori Project. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders to enhance the protection and empowerment of women and children in the community.
The gathering saw the presence of esteemed representatives from various departments, including the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Women’s Police Station In-Charge - Matia, S.I. Matia Police Station, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) team, the District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), beneficiaries, and other relevant stakeholders.
The discussion revolved around critical issues affecting the community, particularly focusing on child rights, women’s safety, and access to legal support. Stakeholders actively shared insights, discussed challenges, and explored strategies to improve intervention efforts. The police representatives emphasised the importance of reporting cases of abuse and violence, assuring prompt action and support for victims. The CWC members highlighted the legal provisions available for child protection and stressed the need for stronger community awareness. The DALSA team provided valuable information on legal aid services accessible to vulnerable individuals.
Beneficiaries also shared their experiences, voicing concerns regarding domestic violence, child marriage, and the challenges faced by adolescent girls in their pursuit of education. Their testimonies provided a deeper understanding of the on-ground realities, allowing stakeholders to identify gaps in existing support mechanisms.
As part of the discussion, plans were made to conduct regular awareness programs, strengthen the referral system for legal and police support, and enhance the engagement of local self-governance bodies in addressing these concerns. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment from all stakeholders to work collectively in ensuring the safety, rights, and well-being of women and children under the Sohochori Project.
This meeting marked a crucial step in fostering inter-departmental cooperation and reinforcing the support network for marginalised communities in Matia.
