Kolkata Slum Project

In the heart of Kolkata’s slums, children are often burdened with responsibilities far beyond their years. They are encouraged to participate in various income-generating activities such as rag picking, begging, and other exploitative practices to supplement their family’s meager income.

This harsh reality robs them of their rightful education and forces them into the workforce at an age when they should be learning and playing.

Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) has launched the Kolkata Slum Project to intervene in this cycle of poverty and lost potential. Our initiative is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment where these vulnerable and underprivileged children can reclaim their childhood. We offer joyful learning experiences, remedial classes, and facilitate their enrolment into government schools. Additionally, we work tirelessly to ensure that the community members access their legal entitlements and good health and hygiene, contributing to their overall development.

Through this initiative, we aim to empower these children to dream bigger and strive towards realizing their true potential. By providing them with the tools and support they need, we hope to help them break free from the shackles of poverty and build a future filled with hope and opportunity.
