Smokeless chulas showing the way for the community

June 6, 2017

New initiatives give way to new beginning….at KMWSC new initiatives are always welcome.
Solar Enlighten and Community Empowerment Project conducted a need based survey at Manmathnagar, Gosaba for new initiative of implementing smokeless chulas (cooking oven), with the help of an expert from SAMUCHIT Enviro Tech, Pune.

30 families were part of this survey; from 24th to 28th May. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was carried on in four directions.

The women are living far from the ease and comfort which some of their contemporaries are offered in the cities. No one had ever discussed with them about their difficulties and disadvantages of using firewood for cooking meals. How much they had been affected by the unhealthy impact of carbon monoxide, smoke and soot in all these years.
The women folk took a step forward to make their lives better and with complete enthusiasm took part in the training.

The objective of the programme will be about efficient utilisation of local energy resources (wood, crop, residue, biogas and solar) for household cooking/heating.As its name indicates that it is not only to fulfil the basic necessities like fuel to cook food but also a step to the sustainable use of renewable energy resources.

Conventional methods used bypeople for cooking and heating(for example LPG, kerosene, coaland wood are going to end in near future and are damaging the environment in form of deforestation and excess mining, further morethey are expensive for people of rural areas. That is why a survey was carried out o find ways to utilize and assess the need of  local energy resources efficient for cooking and heating. In rural areas people are still using traditional and conventional methods for heating and cooking which are neither are either inefficient or costly and are not using other easily available alternative energy resources like solar, biogas, residue and household wastage.

KMWSC in association Samuchit Enviro Tech is looking forward to bringing the desired changes.
