Report of Health camp and support visit to Solar Enlighten and community Empowerment project

The Director of KMWSC visited Gosaba, Sundarban on 2nd of March 2018. The free eye check up camp was started at 10.00 am in Janargheri-1 of Manmathnagar village. One doctor and two helpers from Gosaba Government Hospital were willingly agreed to come for the camp. During the camp patients were advised to use the new improved cooking stoves to avoid the smoke coming from the traditional cooking stoves. There were 75 patients (Female- 50 Male-25) for the camp. Patients were given eye drops free of cost and a snacks packet. All the trainees were present for the camp. The main focus of the camp was mainly to make awareness and sensitization on the use of smokeless cooking stoves/ improved cooking stoves. The lunch was arranged for the doctor and for his team. After the lunch the doctor continued to check the eyes of patients till 2.30 pm. After the camp all the trainees interacted with Director. They gave their feedback on the construction of new improved cooking stoves one by one. They informed that there have received the order of more than 60 ICS. They were also given suggestions by Director on how to maintain their revolving fund for future besides their labour charges. After the meeting The Director met four teachers separately in solar growth center to update on the work of solar lamps. The staffs were given suggestions and on the process how to go about it. Followed by the home visit to ensure the use of smokeless cooking stoves and feed back from the families. The director visited few families who were using new ICS. They gave positive  feedback after the use. They said within one they are completing cooking rice dal and curry. On 3rd of March The Director conducted rigorous meeting with field staffs and coordinator. In the beginning the Director thanked each field staff for the hard work and dedication towards constructing improved cooking stoves. They were appreciated with the gifts of OBR mugs and body shampoo. They were happy to receive the gift of appreciation. The Director asked them to do group discussion and monthly planning for the month of March 2018. All were sitting and sharing together along with the coordinator. The monthly action plan was ready by 11.30 am and that was shared with the Director. The field staff got chance to have breakfast and lunch together with the director. It was a fruitful, effective, learning and quality time spent with the whole team.
