Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, the social wing of Loreto Schools, has been organizing One Billion Rising programme since 2015. The One Billion Rising (OBR) is a global campaign to stand in solidarity against the exploitations and violence of women across the globe. This year the campaign is giving sharper focus and visibility to the exploitations of women and harnessing even stronger global solidarity to demand an end to violence in all forms. OBR is a global movement, founded by Eve Ensler, to end rape and sexual violence against women across the world. It was started in 2012 as part of the V-Day movement. In the 1st year, One Billion Rising campaign was held on 14th February 2015 at St.Joseph’s college, Bowbazar, which was magnificently successful with an attendance of over 3000 students from all the reputed colleges, schools and NGOs of Kolkata. In the 2nd and 3rd Year i.e. 2016 and 2017, it was organized at Mohorkunj near Academy of Fine arts and the movement was able to reach out to around 10,000 people from various walks of life. This year KMWSC is organizing the colossal programme on 17th February 2018 at Jatin Maitra Park from 11 AM to 2 PM as a collective response; to stand in solidarity against the exploitations and violence of women. The event will include cultural programmes (Song and dance programme). There will be a number of performances by different groups that include (highlighting issue, violence against women and gender discriminations, Flashmob and others).The event will culminate with dancing, slogan shouting symbolizing that all of us are rising up and spreading love, justice and peace worldwide. The theme for OBR 2018 is - RISE! RESIST! UNITE!
